Here’s what it’s like to work in a Las Vegas doughnut shop
LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — It was a sweet morning at a local doughnut shop. Pinkbox just brought back its popular Raiders doughnuts for the new season, making it a good time for Good Day Las Vegas’ JC Fernandez to get behind the counter.
JC’s morning started with lead decorator Megan Fernandez, who taught him how to make the Cherry Bomb doughnut. The process included filling the donut with cherries, followed by icing, whipped cream, a light dusting of streusel, and topping it all off with a cherry. JC went a little overboard with the streusel. He doesn’t understand what a “light dusting” is, but Megan admitted it wasn’t a bad first attempt.
From there, JC joined Dion Baily, the crew lead, at the Boca Park location, to try his hand at making an Iced White Chocolate Mocha. This drink order was done Pinky Style, which includes whip, pink sprinkles, and a Pee Wee doughnut on top.
Next up was some friendly competition with Alex Aladort, the community partnership manager. The two faced off to see who could design the best Raiders doughnut. The results were close, though Alex may have edged out the win with his finished product. During the challenge, a customer order arrived, giving JC his first opportunity to fill a box. Thankfully, he had the help of Jon, a Pinkbox team member, who knew exactly where every doughnut was located.
The morning ended with one final test, during which he made another Cherry Bomb doughnut completely on his own. JC managed to get it done, but as Alex pointed out, there’s still some fine-tuning before he’s ready to be hired full-time.
